The Meebo Bar Is Now Slightly Less Terrible [Internet]

Meebo's had a rough week. Not only did it get slapped around on this site, where I posted instructions for an easy way to banish the hated Meebo bar, but it also lost its account with Boston.com the same day. More »

Is this RIM's BlackBerry 10 development device?

Image

You know the drill -- grab yourself a spoonful of Morton's and get ready for another supposed leak of a gadget. This time around, you're looking at what's claimed as being of Research In Motion's BlackBerry 10 "Development Alpha" devices that will be handed out during next week's BlackBerry Jam -- just like the company promised a month ago. Images of the device first surfaced over at Crackberry's forums and, as the site points out, the touchscreen candy bar seems to share its design DNA with the PlayBook. Keeping in mind that it's likely to remain a testing device for devs, don't bank on it ever hitting store shelves. That said, we're now curious how pivotal a roll RIM's famous tactile keyboards will play on its next-generation phones -- if any. Head over to the sources links below if you'd like to catch more photos from Mr. Blurrycam and extra information in the meantime.

The Seven Forces Disrupting Venture Capital

shift keyFor the past two years, I have read or glanced over what seems like hundreds of blog posts and thousands of tweets from people who either directly claim or indirectly hint at a disruption of traditional venture capital. For some, the factors related to the economy, that limited partners and especially institutional investors were reviewing their investment approaches. For others, it seemed as if there was too much money in the venture asset class, that there was too much money chasing too few real opportunities. There seemed to be a long laundry list of why venture capital was undergoing this shift, but never any thread that could lay out all the factors and synthesize just how each factor contributed to shift. That is, until now..

YouTube For Google TV Gets Recommendations, Smoother Playback And A +1 Button

Google TV - OverviewGoogle TV, the company's first serious foray into the living room, hasn't exactly set the world on fire. That doesn't mean Google has given up, though. Far from it. While there hasn't been much news about Google TV itself lately, the YouTube app for Google TV is getting an update today. Google says that its developers have "been working like it's a 24/7 hackathon over here to bring all of YouTube to your Google TV." With this update, the developers have added recommendations, a Google+ button and the ability to search for channels. The new version now also handles suddenly drops in bandwidth more gracefully.

Cleaning Up With High-Tech Housekeeping Tools

Marla Cilley, aka the FlyLady, knows a thing or two about housecleaning. One of those things is that it's hard to get motivated to do it. To address this problem, she created an empire around inspiring others to step up their housecleaning game. "We do behavior modification through email, Facebook and Twitter, and that behavior modification helps our members establish simple habits and string them into a routine," said Cilley.
