Olympic Games give British public a boost ? but ... - BBC World News

Some 83 per cent of people said the Olympics had a positive effect on the UK ? but over half of people think the buzz will be shortlived. Just over a third thought the effect of the Games would be long-term. Of the 1,002 people interviewed, four fifths said they had been interested in London 2012. Nearly two thirds said the Olympics had provided good value for money and 56 per cent said the Games had had a positive effect on them personally. The London Olympic Games were watched by more than 50million people in Britain, making it the biggest national TV event ever. Official figures released yesterday showed 51.9million viewers saw at least 15 minutes of the BBC?s broadcasts ? equivalent to 90 per cent of the population. The next chapter of Olympic history has officially begun after the Olympic flag arrived in Rio de Janeiro, the host city for the 2016 Summer Games. PICTURES: Closing ceremony fireworks
